Southern Africa is fast becoming a sought-after destination for fly fishers. Not only does it host a wonderful array of superb fly-taking fish species, but it offers a wide variety of angling conditions - enough to water any fly-rodder's mouth. After taking off in your helicopter from Johannesburg, enjoy an exhilarating flight from the highveld down the escarpment - and into battle with two of South Africa's most esteemed indigenous fish species - the smallscale and largescale yellowfish. Golden by form and quicksilver by nature, explore the placid clear rivers of the Lowveld in search of these hard-fighting fish weighing up to 6 lbs. There's also every opportunity to do battle with the popular Largemouth black bass. With a host of inviting farm dams to choose from, it requires a more sturdy fly rod and large poppers to entice specimen-sized Largemouths out of the structure they so love to hide in. There's also an excellent opportunity to tangle with the hard-fighting Mozambican tilapia which on a 6 -weight rod and small bloodworm imitation can make you reconsider the "pound for pound" debate. Time now to depart and challenge one of Africa's finest freshwater demons - the awesome tiger fish. No quarter asked and none given. In lake fishing by boat we will search out the magnificent "striped water-dog" to give you a taste of one of the hardest "takers" you are likely to experience . Getting them to latch on to your fly is one thing...getting them into the boat is another. Mozambique is fast becoming the sun-soaked playground of visitors but in the renowned Bazaruto Archipelago resides the luxurious Benguerra Lodge. You may snorkel...you may dive... and you may experience some of the finest saltwater flyfishing on the continent. In the company of experienced guides and a flyfishing boat, make the most of your chance to catch giant kingfish, queenfish, kawakawa, couta and queen mackerel amongst a host of other species - including (if you're lucky and skilful) a very sought-after bonefish. And then to bring some sanity back to this flyfishing adventure, we drop in for a touch of trout. Rainbows and browns rising in both river and dam enfolded by many years of history. Induce your trout to inspect your fly in waters once panned by gold diggers feverishly searching for a sight of the precious yellow metal. Accommodation will revolve around the quality of fishing to be enjoyed and will vary from quaint farmhouse settings to up-market lodges.
